The Limerick Ladies football squad before their league fixture against Offaly last month
LIMERICK ladies football team suffered a 2-7 to 0-10 defeat to Louth in their Lidl Ladies National Football League Division 3 fixture at Newcastle West on Sunday last.
Limerick, who have won two and drawn one of their six league fixtures to date, make the trip to Kingspan Breffni Park to face table toppers Cavan for a Round 7 league fixture this Sunday, 2pm.
Sixth-placed Limerick trailed Louth 0-4 to 1-3 at half-time in their Round 6 fixture in Newcastle West on Sunday.
Louth got off to the ideal start when scoring an early goal to lead 1-0 to no score. However, Limerick recovered from that early blow and were right back in the contest, thanks to two pointed frees from Deborah Murphy.
Indeed, the home side was level after 19 minutes as two more pointed frees from Monagea player Murphy tied the scores at 0-4 to 1-1.
The Leinster side, who led by two points, 1-5 to 0-6, mid-way through the second half hit their hosts for a crucial second goal from Lucy White at the start of the final quarter to move five points ahead.
Limerick, to their credit, fought bravely to close the gap and the home side managed the last three points of the game from Murphy, two frees, and Rebecca Delee from play.
However, Louth had done enough to collect the win and the league points on offer.
