A BUMPER Limerick GAA annual is now on sale across the city and county.

Senior hurling manager John Kiely was present at the Coolyroe GAA Clubhouse in Castlemahon to launch the 424-page opus, which is on sale across the county now.

It's the work of Ballysteen clubman Paul Anglim, who is now also county football secretary. It is the first Limerick GAA annual produced since 2016.

“I was thinking it's a bit of a disgrace over the last few years that we've not had an annual, especially since Limerick have become so successful. I saw an opportunity to do this after the hurlers won the three-in-a-row for the first time ever,” he explained.

After Limerick beat Kilkenny at Croke Park last July, Paul broached the idea with the former Limerick GAA chairman John Cregan who sought permission from the County Board to make it happen.

“The book is not just about the senior hurling team, it's about every aspect of the GAA in Limerick. The clubs are covered, the county teams are covered, minor football and hurling, plus ladies' football and camogie,” said Paul.

Paul has updated the county's roll of honour - something last done by renowned GAA historian Séamus Ó Ceallaigh in 1984 - and recorded every single GAA result across the county in the 2022 season.

Another highlight of the book comes in the shape of a letter from Tom Prendergast, republished in full, which referred to the first hurling match played under GAA rules in Limerick. The letter was sent to Mr Ó Ceallaigh back in 1931.

The Limerick GAA Annual 2023 is on sale from all Centra stores across Limerick, as well as Crescent Bookshop, Dooradoyle and Talking Leaves Bookshop in Castletroy.

Priced at €20, all proceeds go to Limerick GAA.
