'Shocking': Man brazenly buys gun in middle of Limerick town on Valentine’s Day

LOCALS were left stunned after seeing a man brandishing a firearm in a County Limerick town in the middle of the afternoon.

The shocking incident occurred in Kilmallock at around 3.30pm on Saturday, February 14. 

A video, which has been widely shared on social media, purportedly shows a sniper rifle being exchanged between two men. A car is parked on double yellow lines beside them.

Following a media query from Limerick Live, a garda spokesperson confirmed they received a report of the incident.

“A male was alleged to be in possession of a firearm in Kilmallock, County Limerick on Saturday, February 14. Enquiries are ongoing,” said the garda spokesperson.

It is understood that there was no further incident involving the firearm.

Limerick Live has been informed the sniper rifle was being sold on the street.

One local said: “The town was busy as t’was Valentine’s Day with people out and about and men buying flowers and chocolates but this fella was buying a rifle. It's shocking stuff - the brazenness of it beggars belief.”
