Limerick's Celia Holman Lee shares her style tips from 30 years at the Ploughing

The Holman Lee Agency are hosting three fashion shows a day throughout the Ploughing

“One goes back to go forward” were the words of wisdom shared by Limerick’s Celia Holman Lee at this year’s National Ploughing Championships.

Speaking to Limerick Live from the Fashion Dome, Celia described the thrice-daily fashion shows as “chock-a-block”.

With the venue seating approximately 300 people, almost 1,000 audience members have viewed the shows each day.

A former model, Celia also founded the Holman Lee Agency, Ireland’s longest running model agency.

Emceed by Celia and Brigid Dooley, who also coordinates the show, models from the Holman Lee Agency showcase looks from “fantastic fashion boutiques from all over the country”.

Discussing the trends that she’s spotted at the Ploughing, Celia said: “One goes back to go forward, but they put a twist on it.”

Cropped jackets, tweed, lots of different fabrics, drop sleeves, and knitwear are among the styles she’s noticed.

“And denim, of course, is everywhere,” she adds.

Though Celia wasn’t judging the competition for the most appropriately dressed lady and man, she explained that “something very country, maybe tweedy, maybe with a bit of a hat” is what she’d be looking for in the men’s contest, given the day that’s in it.

With the ladies, she’s more flexible, saying that they don’t necessarily need to dress to suit the Ploughing.

Celia has been attending the Ploughing for 30 years, and has seen many trends come and go over the decades.

“I think the outerwear for the ploughing has certainly got a lot more glamorous, especially from the men. You'll see them in their beautiful tweed jackets,” she said.
