Mayor John Moran at The People's Park to launch the new website - www.Trees.Limerick.ie I PICTURE: Brian Arthur

A NEW online platform has been launched which allows for all new tree planting across Limerick city and county to be recorded.
The website - www.Trees.Limerick.ie - invites any individual, group, business or community to register all tree planting across Limerick. By enabling people to record where and when trees are planted, Trees.Limerick.ie will help track progress, celebrate local action and support informed planning for climate action, biodiversity protection and sustainable development.
Trees.Limerick.ie is supported by the Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, who has set out a clear ambition in the Limerick Mayoral Programme 2024 - 2029 seeking to reach a target of at least one tree to be planted for every citizen in Limerick.

“This online platform is another practical way to show the importance we are placing in the ‘greening’ of Limerick. This new platform will allow each and every tree planted in our county to be recorded and protected into the future. My ambition to plant at least one tree for every citizen of Limerick during my mayoral term is well known.
“While it’s an ambitious target, I believe it’s the right one to improve our air quality, our biodiversity and our wellbeing. I encourage everyone in Limerick to support this initiative. Every community, school, farm, business and individual can help us grow a more liveable, more healthy Limerick,” outlined Mayor John Moran.
Príomh Chomhairleoir, Cllr Catherine Slattery, said: “Planting trees really is one of the best investments we all can make in our communities. They make our neighbourhoods more attractive, improve the air around us, provide habitats for wildlife and just simply make places nicer to live in or spend time in. Trees.limerick.ie is a fantastic platform, allowing people to see how, together, even small actions of planting a single tree can add up to something meaningful for our city and county.”
