Limerick schools celebrate as winners of Community Pride Video Competition are announced

LIMERICK Enterprise Development Partnership (LEDP) has announced the winners of its Community Pride Video Competition, an inspiring DEIS primary schools contest that showcases the creativity and community spirit of students across Limerick’s most disadvantaged areas.

Organised by LEDP as part of its 25th anniversary programme of events, the competition was open to all DEIS primary schools in Limerick City and County to promote community pride in students and highlight the unique aspects of their respective communities.

The winning entries came from St Mary’s NS on King’s Island, and Thomond Primary School, Ballynanty, who both receive €2,000 towards IT equipment for their school. Le Cheile NS, Galvone, and Scoil Iosagain CBS Sexton Street were both highly commended, receiving €500 each, respectively.

Students, supported by their teachers, were encouraged to create a three minute video that captures the essence of community pride. Whether highlighting local landmarks, sharing stories of community heroes, or showcasing community events and clubs, students had the opportunity to tell their own unique stories.

The judging criteria focused on creativity, storytelling, technical quality, and adherence to the theme of community pride.
“We are immensely proud of all our students having successfully won LEDP’s Community Pride Video Competition,” said Sinéad Toomey, principal of Thomond Primary School.

“The video is a testament to the talent, creativity, and deep sense of community that our students possess. The prize put forward by LEDP will enable us to enrich the educational experience, preparing our students for a digital future, and supporting teachers in delivering effective and inclusive education.”

“The winning entries stood out for their originality, storytelling, and technical excellence, and we are excited to celebrate their achievements,” said Niall O'Callaghan, chief executive of LEDP.

“I would like to thank all the schools for their efforts and congratulate them on capturing the true meaning of community pride. It was obvious there was a huge amount of work put into creating these videos and it certainly made our job in judging the results incredibly difficult!”
