The death has occurred of Colman Murtagh

Of Longford Town and Curraghchase.

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Patrick "Colman" Murtagh on March 29, 2025, in London, Britain, while staying with his daughters. He passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side. He was 76 years old.

Born on March 10, 1949, to Elizabeth and John Murtagh of Dublin Street, Longford, Colman brought joy and warmth to all who knew him. He dedicated many years to his trade at the Murtagh Butcher shop, a multi-generational family business that served the Longford community with distinction.

A gentleman in every sense, Colman's warmth and character found a new home in New York City. There, with his beloved wife Breda of nearly 50 years, they spent over four decades building a beautiful life and raising two daughters who became the pride of his life. In 2020, Colman retired to Curraghchase, Co. Limerick, where he enjoyed his final years.

Colman leaves behind his devoted wife Breda Murtagh, his daughters Lisa FitzGerald and husband Brian, Sinéad Freeman and husband Ben; his brother Gerard Murtagh and his treasured grandchildren Tadhg, Maeve, Saoirse, Pearse, Caoimhe, Blaise, and Théa. He is also cherished by his nephews, nieces, in-laws, cousins, and the many friends whose lives he touched.

His quiet strength, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication to family created a legacy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

May he rest in peace.

Colman will repose at Glennon’s Funeral Home , Ballinalee Road (N39 EC81) on Monday April 14, from 6.00pm concluding with prayers at 8.00pm. Mass of the Resurrection on Tuesday, April 15 in St Mel’s Cathedral at 11.00am , interment afterwards in Ballymacormack cemetery.

The funeral Mass will be streamed live. Please go to www.longfordparish.com

Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, can be made in Colman's honour to St. Jude Children's Hospital in New York City, an organisation he actively supported throughout his life or to Laura Lynn Hospice, Ireland's only children's hospice.
