Man arrested following shocking assault of woman on busy Limerick street

Arrest made after 'violent disorder' in Limerick which is circulating on social media

A MAN has been arrested by gardai investigating an incident during which a woman was kicked in the face on a busy street in Limerick city centre.

The violent incident, footage of which has been widely shared on social media and WhatsApp, occurred in the Arthur’s Quay/Patrick’s Street area on Tuesday.

A garda spokesperson has confirmed to Limerick Live that a man has been arrested following the incident and is currently in custody.

The man, whose aged in his 20s, is currently being detained in a Limerick garda station under the provisions of Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act 1984.

While the video footage of the incident has been views thousands of times, gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.

In the footage a man can been seen kicking the woman in the face.

The footage shows another woman running after the perpetrator and the video continues with both females and the male shouting and continuing to be physical with each other as those involved moved around the corner, across the road from Arthur's Quay Park.

A busy season for tourists in the city, and with a heavily-used bus stop across the road from the site, many onlookers stopped in their tracks as the incident took place.
