There are plans to transform the old pool on the grounds of Salesian College, Pallaskenry
THE FORMER swimming pool building at Pallaskenry looks set for a new lease of life, with plans to convert it into a sports and recreation hall green-lit by council.
The facility at the Salesian College in the village has been out of use since 2009 due to a faulty roof and the complex has lain idle since then.

Prior to this, it was used by generations of youngsters who learned to swim in it.
Rev Patrick Hennessy of the Salesian order applied for permission from Limerick City and County Council to convert the former pool into a sports, recreation and assembly hall.
It will include changing rooms, toilets, a canteen and meeting room.
Limerick City and County Council made contact last month to confirm it would be granting conditional planning permission.
The local authority wants to see the construction works recorded as they proceed in order to facilitate the preservation by record and the architectural heritage of the site.
Construction can only take place on site between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday, and 8am t0 4pm on Saturday.
Adequate car parking facilities are to be provided for all workers and visitors.
Contacted by Limerick Live when the planning application was submitted in March school principal Keith O Rahilly said there is positivity around the proposals.
“We are tight on space here in the school, we are tight on gym space. We are also hoping the space might be able to accommodate our agricultural students here on the campus,” he said.
He revealed the restoration of the pool, as opposed to its conversion, would be too costly and may have meant the establishment of a new business.
Mr O Rahilly, who took over as principal in 2023, stressed the plans are at an early stage.
He thinks the new building will operate mainly as a function hall.
