"OF course when you are defending champions you are always going to be the team to beat at the start of the year, but that is for other people to decide and for us this is a totally different year" says Newcastle West senior camogie manager Mike Quaid ahead of this Saturday's county final against Ahane.

The Newcastle West team have twelve returning players that tasted county final glory last year after overcoming Killeedy in the 2023 camogie final. This year they will have a different task on their hands as they battle it out against Ahane in Cappamore at 4pm.

Newcastle West remain the only team in the Limerick senior camogie championship to be unbeaten this year with an incredible run of form throughout the campaign.

This year's championship has produced some incredibly exciting games with Newcastle West and Ahane already meeting this season. Speaking about the group game Newcastle manager Quaid went on to say: "Ahane are serious competition. There was only a point in our group game at half-time, we won it by a couple of points in the end, but it could have gone either way the same night.

"Ahane have a huge history of winning camogie titles so they know they way around county finals but we have every confidence that our group of girls will come out on top this Saturday."

Newcastle West, like many other clubs in the county, have a number of dual players with the management putting a huge emphasis on keeping the squad healthy throughout the summer.

Quaid explained further by stating: "It has been a huge emphasis this season to try and keep everyone fit and healthy, just making sure we have as many players as we can fit for each game that we have gone out and played. The season is extremely long but this is the position you want to be at the end of the championship."
