AHANE will compete for the Limerick Senior Cup title for the first time in two years this Saturday.

They will be up against stiff competition in last year's champions Newcastle West, who will be gunning to retain the senior title.

This 'Super Saturday' will show off the best camogie teams in the county with both the Senior and Intermediate Cup finals taking place as a double-header of fixtures in Cappamore at 4pm and 1.15pm respectively.

Ahane senior camogie manager Phelim Macken reflected on the championship to date and how his side fared.

“It was a really interesting championship this year with the perceived stronger teams all in the same group. We had a tough group game against Newcastle West that anyone could have won that day. It was only a puck of a ball really and Saturday's game will be no different," Phelim Macken said

"Our semi-final against Bruff was also extremely tough. We knew going into the fixture what Bruff would bring, they have a number of county players paired with some really good young players coming through the ranks as well. After that win, we do feel a small bit more battle hardened going into the final."

The club have lost at total of five county finals over the years, the first one to Killeedy in 2007. Ahane finally made a breakthrough in 2018, beating Newcastle West in the semi-final by one point three years in-a-row.

Speaking about his team's opposition on Saturday, manager Macken added: "Newcastle West have a host of incredible players and over the years we have always brought out the best in each other, it's always the game that everyone is up for the most.

"Everyone wants to knock them off their perch and this is our opportunity to do so."
