SMALL-TO-MEDIUM sized company owners helped create 531 new jobs across Limerick in 2025.

That’s according to data released from Local Enterprise Office (Leo) Limerick, which provides support to businesses which employ under 15 people.

As part of Leo Limerick’s annual report, figures show there was a 31% increase in jobs locally from 2024.

It represents the 12th straight year of annual jobs growth across the county.

In terms of the increase in the number of jobs locally, it stood at 259 year-on-year when other factors were taken into account.

These include firms which ceased trading, were merged, or simply grew too big to be supported by the Local Enterprise Office and were moved onto being backed by Enterprise Ireland.

A total of 310 small businesses supported by Leo Limerick employed some 2,289 people.

Head of enterprise at Leo Limerick Mike Cantwell said: “These results are a testament to the ambition and resilience of Limerick’s small business community. To see 531 new jobs created in 2025, with strong net growth and more companies scaling every year, reflects the hard work of our entrepreneurs and their teams. We are incredibly proud of what these businesses have achieved and remain committed to supporting their continued growth across the county.”

Nationwide, a total of 40,285 jobs were supported by the Local Enterprise Office, within 7,148 small firms.

It’s the most jobs the Local Enterprise Offices have supported nationally since it was founded in 2014.

In 2025 there were 7,261 new jobs created by enterprise office clients companies with a net jobs creation figure of 2,479.

This is up 7% nationally on 2024.

From the jobs created, 82% were outside of the Dublin region.

Local Enterprise Offices also provided supports to thousands of other small businesses across the country with programmes such as the Grow Digital Voucher, Lean for Business and Green for Business along with training and mentoring.

Like all Local Enterprise Offices nationally, Leo Limerick operates within the auspices of the relevant local authority, in this case, Limerick City and County Council.

It’s funded through Enterprise Ireland.

Leo Limerick runs a number of initiatives to foster entrepreneurship including Local Enterprise Week, National Women’s Enterprise Day, the Student Enterprise Programme and the National Enterprise Awards.
