SOMETIMES we move through our days in a blur - it’s a case of work, home, repeat.

We often barely turn our heads long enough to notice what’s unfolding around us. We pass places like the National Technology Park in Plassey, or the many business and industrial estates dotted across Limerick and the wider region, without ever realising the scale of innovation, research, and ambition that is happening behind those vast walls and quiet entrances. There are teams shaping the future of Limerick while we drive by outside, totally unaware.

Last weekend, at the Limerick Chamber Annual President’s Dinner and Regional Business Awards at the Limerick Strand Hotel, that often hidden world came together.

More than 400 invited guests filled the Shannon Suite to celebrate the innovation, entrepreneurship and sheer can-do attitude that fuel the Mid-West. Business leaders, policymakers, and key stakeholders gathered to acknowledge the ambition and resilience that define our region.

Now in its 14th year, the event remains central to the Chamber’s goal of championing businesses across Limerick, Clare, Tipperary and North Kerry.

What stood out most on the night was the extraordinary mix of people - from start-up founders to established industry giants - all united by a shared drive to push boundaries.

Watching the award recipients take to the stage, it was impossible not to feel heartened. For them, each award represents years of graft, late nights, setbacks, breakthroughs, and belief.

The glitzy evening is a well-earned chance to unwind and meet people from other industries, but it is the relentless daily grind that sees the chosen few go home with awards.

That Friday night was a powerful reminder that extraordinary things are happening all around us in the city and county even if we don’t always notice. Well done to all the winners and nominees. Your work and energy lifts the entire region.
