NEW DISCOUNT store Dealz, a division of British chain Poundland, has officially opened on William Street, creating 50 jobs.

Dealz is located in the old Newsoms building on William Street and encompasses 5,500 square feet of retail space.

Management have told the Limerick Leader that the company has signed a long term lease on the building and may open more units in the city.

“We are delighted to be in Limerick, it is a large city and we are creating 50 jobs from store managers through senior sales, flexible and part time staff,” explained Leonard Brassel, Senior Business Manager for Dealz in Ireland.

He continued: “It is a fairly big commitment from the company in terms of the size of the unit and the fit out of it, which is of a very high standard. Anyone who comes along can see that William Street has been transformed and we have invested a lot of money in the building itself and we are going to be here for quite a long time”.

The Limerick store is the sixth that Poundland have opened in Ireland, with the chain investing close to two million euro in the Irish economy. Mr Brassel declined to say how much the investment in Limerick was worth, but stressed that it was “significant” and said the chain has “ambitious plans to roll more (shops) out, maybe more in Limerick if we can”.

“We have had a fantastic response from the people of Limerick,” added Mr Brassel.
