Man, 50s, removed to University Hospital Limerick after fatal car crash in Clare

A MAN has been removed to University Hospital Limerick following a fatal car collision, in which the driver collided with a wall in County Clare. 

Gardi in Ennis are investigating a single fatal road traffic collision which occurred at Castlefergus, Quin, at approximately 9.15pm Sunday night. 

"A male driver in his 50s (only occupant) was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision. The deceased man has been removed to University Hospital Limerick (UHL) for a post mortem examination. It is understood from initial investigations that the car collided with a wall," a garda spokesperson said. 

This stretch of road is closed to facilitate an examination by garda forensic collision investigators. The local coroner has been notified.

AA Roadwatch stated this Monday morning: "The local road linking Quin to the M18 at J11 Dromoland is closed at Castlefergus following a fatal collision last night." 

Gardaí wish to appeal for witnesses to contact Ennis Garda Station on 065-6848106, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
