Double success helps Enright to Limerick's Young Sports Star award

MONALEEN GAA’s rising star Daniel Enright is the Young Sports Star of the month for October.

The Limerick Sports Star award which is organised by the Limerick Radisson Blu Hotel and Spa and the Limerick Leader honours the outstanding sporting candidate for their achievements in a given month.

The winners are announced monthly but presented quarterly at a lunch in the Limerick Radisson Blu. Each winner is presented with a personalised silver presentation plate from Keane’s Jewellers.

During October, Daniel Enright won a Limerick SFC title and a Limerick Premier Minor Football title - more noteworthy, he started on the field of play in both finals just four days apart.

On Saturday October 15 the 18 year old was wing forward as Monaleen won the Limerick SFC title for the sixth time after a 2-14 to 1-11 win over Dromcollogher-Broadford in a final played under lights in the Gaelic Grounds.

Four days later it was back to the Gaelic Grounds when Enright was centre back as Monaleen won the Premier minor football title with a 2-7 to 1-7 final win over Rathkeale.

In total five Monaleen teenagers won both senior and minor medals but Enright was the only player to start in both finals.

He made his Limerick SFC debut in the round four win over Fr Caseys in late August and then cemented his place in Muiris Gavin’s team when Monaleen beat Rathkeale and St Patricks on their way to the senior final.

Earlier this year, Enright was corner back in the Limerick minor football team that played four games in the Munster championship - beating Tipperary and Waterford and losing to Clare and Cork in the semi final.

The list of previous Young Sports Star winners is; January – Jenna Bromell (Emerald AC); February – Richie English (Mary I Fitzgibbon Cup); March – Laura Stack (Milford Camogie); April – Anthony Barrett (Limerick minor hurling & football and Limerick Youths Soccer); May – John Hayes (Limerick Desmond League U-15); June - Ben Betts (Ireland U-20 Rugby); July – Ciara Neville (Athletics); August - Limerick Golf Club (All Ireland U-18 Fred Daly Trophy winners); September - Brian Ryan (Limerick minor hurler).
