WILLIAM O’Donoghue is preparing to deliver a couple of big speeches this week - one of which will be given on his wedding day!

The Limerick hurler is set to marry his long-time love Gemma Cowen this weekend in the stunning Cashel Palace in Tipperary. And, just hours beforehand, he is expected to line out for his club, Na Piarsaigh, when they take on Ballybrown on Thursday in the senior hurling championship.

It has been a year to remember for William, having lifted the Liam MacCarthy Cup at Croke Park in July.

Gemma, who is an artist by profession, has shared all about their wedding preparations on her social media, from going to dress fittings in the UK, to William perfecting his speech during the week.

Gemma celebrated her hen party in her native Offaly, while William headed to the land of the All-Ireland football champions, Mayo, for his stag do, with the guest list including many of his All-Ireland winning teammates.

The co-founder of FemFuelz is being warmly welcomed into the Cowen family, with his soon-to-be father-in-law politician Barry Cowen singing his praises in Brussels.

The Fianna Fáil MEP shared a video on social media of him telling the Glin Active Retirement group all about the man his daughter is set to marry.

Mr Cowen told the members of Glin Active Retirement group in Brussels all about his daughter marrying the Limerick man, adding that the groom is “one of their esteemed hurlers”.

This was met with approval by all those gathered.

“You’re a popular man in Brussels amongst the Glin Active Retirement group this morning,” Mr Cowen said, tagging his future son-in-law.

The couple are in the middle of a very busy social season - they were in Portugal celebrating the nuptials of Gearoid Hegarty in August, and will be attending the weddings of fellow teammates Tom Morrissey and David Reidy in the coming months.
