THE countdown is on to December 9 when the Limerick senior hurling panel don boxing gloves in a fund-raising venture.
A Night of Boxing will take place on Saturday December 9 in the South Court Hotel where there will be at least nine fights between members of the senior hurling panel – the bouts will consist of three two-minute rounds.
The boxing pairings will be finalised this Sunday evening after the weigh-in.
The boxing training is taking place in St Francis Boxing Club under coach Ken Moore, who guided Andy Lee through the amateur ranks.
Tickets must be pre-purchased for the December 9 boxing – costing €20 for adults and €10 for children. There is a €50 family ticket and ringside seats are €35. Tickets can be purchased on 061-335516.
The event is being organised by the Limerick senior hurling management and players in conjunction with Club Limerick. There are a variety of sponsorship opportunities. Sponsoring a fight costs €2000, sponsoring a hurler/boxer costs €500 and general advertising is €200.
Proceeds from the boxing go to the senior hurling training fund.
