WATCH: Young Munster head coach Gearoid Prendergast's reaction to AIL derby win over Shannon

YOUNG Munster keep their hopes of securing a top four-play finish in Division 1A of the All-Ireland League very much alive after recording an entertaining 31-27 bonus point win over great rivals Shannon before a bumper attendance at Tom Clifford Park on Saturday evening.

Munsters' five point haul from the fixture moved Gearoid Prendergast's sixth-placed side to within two points of the semi-final play-off positions with now just seven series of games to go in the regular season.

Shannon, who hit back strongly in the second half to take two bonus points from the fixture, moved out of the relegation zone as a result, albeit the Parish side are just one point clear of ninth-placed UCD.

As the fixtures makers would have it, Shannon's next fixture is a mammoth away date with UCD at Belfield on Saturday next, 2.30pm.

Munsters', who had defeated Shannon 32-3 in the AIL at Thomond Park early last month, also face a crunch fixture next weekend, a second home fixture in seven days, this time against fourth-placed Dublin University.
