WATCH: Kilcoyne family proud as Limerick prop Dave joins '50 club'

LIMERICK prop Dave Kilcoyne earned his 50th cap for Ireland last weekend in their thrilling Six Nations victory over France at the Aviva Stadium.

The UL-Bohemian player came on to a rapturous roar in the Aviva Stadium as he hit the milestone with family and friends watching.

“We're very proud of Dave. It was a riveting match to watch on Saturday. It's probably one of the best I've ever seen with Ireland," Dave's uncle Fergus told the Limerick Leader this week.

“It's a major achievement for any rugby player to have 50 caps but Dave, to get the 50th cap, for his own family, we're all delighted and thrilled to see he's got on so well. He's had a hard year, he’s struggled with two injuries, he's worked hard to get back onto the team and he's there now. And please God, he stays there for a while.

Ireland beat France 32-19, securing a bonus point and putting them top of the Six Nations table ahead of Scotland.

“They're really up there, the number one team in the world taking on the number two team and it lived up to its quality and it's great to see it. And then as the year goes on with the World Cup coming on board we have a great year to look forward to rugby in Ireland,” he told the Limerick Leader.

Dave, who is 34 years old, joined the Munster Rugby Academy in the 2010/11 season and made his debut at the end of that season while gaining his first Irish cap during the 2012 Autumn Internationals.

“When he gets the ball, he won't go to the side, he goes straight forward, he goes for the endline and that's bred into him through his father Pat.

“Pat was a prop with Bohs and he was known as 'the killer' as well. So they're both known as 'the killer' and it's great to see, Dave is taking it in his stride,” he added.
