WATCH: Taoiseach Simon Harris updates online followers on first day as head of government

Ireland's newest Taoiseach Simon Harris has quickly gone to work as head of Government, and has also quickly updated his thousands of online followers. 

Harris, branded the 'TikTok Taoiseach' for his frequent social media activity and posts, told members of the Dáil yesterday that "time is short and there is lots to do", and told viewers today exactly what the leader of the country had been up to so far.

"Hello from Government Buildings" said the post on Twitter. Harris broke down the goings-on of his first day as Taoiseach, including a cabinet meeting held this morning in which a number of Ministers of State were appointed. Various Fine Gael TDs including Neale Richmond, Emer Higgins and Jennifer Carroll MacNeill were part of the Taoiseach's reshuffling.

The Taoiseach also discussed approving a number of new Cabinet committees, including a committee of disability, education and children. 

"Really looking forward to trying to break down silos to improve disability services in this country" Harris said in the video. Harris and his family have campaigned on disability issues for years, with his brother Adam Harris founding AsIAm, Ireland's national autism charity.

Harris announced that later today, he would be calling Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister of the UK. "Today is the 26th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement and I think it's so fitting today that I would engage with the British Prime Minister," he added. Harris also told viewers that he would be in contact with the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

As well as establishing new committees and a cabinet reshuffle, Harris announced that a date had been agreed for the National Economic Dialogue.
