WATCH: Limerick camogie manager Joe Quaid 'couldn't be more proud' of battling display against Waterford

The Limerick senior camogie side lost out 0-12 to 0-6 to the 2023 All-Ireland finalists in the Munster quarter-final

JOE Quaid was proud of his side's performance in the Munster championship quarter-final. The Limerick senior camogie team were defeated by 2023 All-Ireland senior camogie finalists Waterford 0-12 to 0-6 at the TUS Gaelic Grounds on Sunday.

''If you're not winning, you need to be learning and the one thing we learned about the girls is that they were just outstanding. I couldn't be prouder of them," Joe Quaid said.

"There should be a 20-point gap between it, you're talking about a team who were in the top last year and a team that was facing relegation. It didn't look like it out there and for a lot of periods of the game we were actually the better team. We probably just couldn't put it up on the scoreboard. We'll make no excuses.

"The train is getting back on the track and we asked them to change the conversation about Limerick camogie. From both sides, the effort, the fight and the battling that was put in there was just unbelievable.''

Limerick started the game brightly racing into a 0-1 to 0-0 lead and the Shannonsiders could of been ahead by more if Caoimhe Costello's penalty hit the back of the net, but her shot was saved by Waterford goalkeeper Brianna O'Regan.

''It was an absolutely fantastic save and that's not just because I was a goalkeeper. It was an excellent save because Caoimhe met it and if that goes in you're four points up. All of sudden you get them thinking slightly different. I thought the way the girls started was brilliant and we're learning the right way.''

Limerick's Munster championship has now came to an end and Joe Quaid side's will now prepare for the All-Ireland series where they will face Kilkenny in the opening round on Saturday, May 25. Antrim, Derry, Waterford and Tipperary will be their opponents in their remaining group games in Group One of the All-Ireland senior camogie championship.

''You see the team lined out, Cliodhna Ryan came into as a forward this year and she was outstanding again at corner back, Ciara O'Riordan gave an absolute exhibition and Muireann Creamer did a really good job on the camogie player of the year. We just need a few little more small things to click maybe hold the ball up inside a bit more and be a bit more clinical.

"As a performance, for what we asked of the girls we were delighted with that. We could see it coming during the week, the focus in training was gone way higher that it had been. We just need to build from that now,'' said Joe Quaid.
