WATCH: Newcastle West captain Brian Hurley: 'It's easier to be a dual player'

Newcastle West defeated Effin 3-13 to 2-13 in the Limerick premier intermediate hurling championship semi-final

"We fell at the last group game last year and two semi-finals before that. It's fourth time lucky. We were up by six or seven points and they came back and only for a diving block at the end we would of missed out again. We're just delighted to be there" said Newcastle West captain Brian Hurley.

Goals from Brian Foley, Bryan Nix and Brian Hurley proved crucial as the Magpies defeated Effin 3-13 to 2-13 in the premier intermediate hurling semi-final in Kilmallock on Saturday afternoon.

Newcastle West will now face Garryspillane in the premier intermediate hurling final at the TUS Gaelic Grounds on Sunday, October 27.

Newcastle West have been balancing football and hurling this year. The West Limerick side face Adare in the Limerick SFC semi-final against Adare on Saturday, October 19 at 4pm in Sean Finn Park.

After the game, Leader Sport caught up with Newcastle West captain Brian Hurley.
