DOON senior hurling selector Tom Murphy paid tribute to Limerick senior hurler Richie English in the wake of their Bon Secours Limerick senior hurling championship win over Kilmallock at the TUS Gaelic Grounds on Thursday evening.
In 2023, Limerick inter-county player English struggled with injury.
"Richie English is probably one of the best hurlers in Limerick over the last few years. He's been very unfortunate with two knee injuries. If every team had a Richie English, every team would be delighted. He leads by example, talking to younger players. Richie English is phenomenal," said Murphy after Doon's one point victory over Kilmallock.
Murphy said: "It's different this year with the lads back earlier unfortunately, everyone wanted them to win an All-Ireland." Doon have been boosted by the return of Richie English, Darragh O'Donovan, Adam English and Barry Murphy from the Limerick senior hurling squad.
It has been statement of intent from Doon to bring in Waterford man Derek McGrath to take charge of the club for 2024 season.
Last year's county semi-finalists have made a bright start to their Limerick SHC campaign and they will be back in action next Friday, August 9 against Patrickswell in Kilmallock at 7pm.
