Spirits not dampened at AMCS Limerick Show despite rainy weather!

President of the Show talks highlights, while Celia Holman Lee discusses popular fashion event

THOUSANDS of people from Limerick city and county flocked to Limerick Racecourse for the annual AMCS Limerick Show.

While a band of wet weather swept across the Patrickswell-held event, it did nothing to dampen the spirits of the wellington-clad crowds.

This Sunday, August 25, over 7,000 people flocked to the Show, one of the most highly-regarded agricultural events of the year.

With doors opening early in the morning and a consistent stream of people well into the evening, the fun of this year's Show was non-stop.

President of the AMCS Limerick Show, Leo Walsh, said: “We would like if the weather was a bit nicer but a fine crowd here today and they are out jiving to the music, they aren’t worried about the rain!

“As usual, it is a very well put together show. We are very happy and a lot of work went into it, with ongoing work by volunteers. I’m delighted that they are rewarded.”

Speaking of some highlights this year, Mr Walsh said: “We have the sheep back this year, which weren’t here for the past few years and we have a new section of poultry, with 180 different types of poultry here this year, so it’s going off very well.”

The middle of the day was marked by the ever-popular Holman Lee Agency fashion show, hosted by none other than Celia Holman Lee herself.

The show saw a selection of Limerick city and county designers and shops showcase their autumn-winter collections, including designers Ber McNamara and Caroline Mitchell, the G-Boutique in Newcastle West, Earls and Pearls and Adare Woollens in Adare, Raspberry Red in Bruff and Sinead’s Boutique, Annacotty.

“We are delighted, we have been doing it now for a few years and while the weather could be better, we have a great crowd coming in,” Celia said.

“This is a great opportunity to see some autumn-winter and to see our stores from Bruff, Castleisland, Adare and Newcastle West - because it is the Limerick Show, we spread our wings and went to the county as well.”
