BREAKING: Five years ago Cllr Greg Conway’s head was down but today it is held high

Kilmallock man elected on 10th count

CLLR GREG Conway missed out on election by a hair’s breadth in Cappamore-Kilmallock in 2019.

The ex-firefighter concedes he considered calling it a day in politics but he decided to continue on thanks to his late father. And today made it all worthwhile.

“I feel delighted. I’m overwhelmed with the support I’ve got. I'm proud to be a member of Fine Gael,” said Cllr Conway.

Losing an election five years ago, he agreed, was a dark day.

“I remember that day well. I walked out of here with my head down. I sat into the car and I went home but it's just determination,” he said.

Cllr Conway thought a couple of times about not running again but one man, in particular, was in his corner.

“I have to say one person who encouraged me and pushed me a lot was my late father. God be good to him, he died last year, but one of the last things he said to me was, ‘if I could help you, Greg, I would’.”

Dan Conway is now smiling down on him along with other deceased family members.

Cllr Conway wished to thank his family and all his supporters.

“The only way you get elected is to canvass. You have to knock on thousands and thousands of doors,” said Cllr Conway.

And he did just that.
