BREAKING: Newly-elected Liam Galvin’s late father ‘smiling down on him’

The long-serving councillor was elected on first count in Newcastle West Municipal District

CLLR LIAM Galvin’s late father Jimmy was in the heart and mind of the newly-elected councillor after he retained his seat.

“Absolutely. Dad was involved with Fine Gael all his life. It's the first election without him. I got a few messages on the phone to say that he would be proud of me tonight.

“We're thinking of him tonight. I know that he's smiling down,” said Cllr Galvin, of his father who passed away in 2020.

The Abbeyfeale man was elected on the first count in Newcastle West Municipal District with 2,257 number ones.

It is Cllr Galvin’s fifth consecutive election and each time his vote has grown.

“Every time I get elected, I've seemed to increase the vote and anyone that likes doing what they're doing, it's not a job. I love doing what I'm doing. I just want to say thanks to the people out there that voted for me,” said Cllr Galvin.

The long-serving councillor is hopeful of being joined by Fine Gael colleagues Tom Ruddle and John Sheahan on Sunday.

However, Cllr Galvin can relax and go to the match

“When I started off my campaign, the slogan was to the drive for five. I just want to take the opportunity to wish John Kiley, who is a super man, and the boys the very best of luck on Sunday.

“They've been fantastic to Limerick. There's great excitement here tonight and I hope around six o'clock on Sunday there'll be more excitement,” said Cllr Galvin.
