"We are happy with the first-half performance against Ballysteen, but we know we are nowhere near where we need to be to win a county final."
This was Newcastle West football manager Liam Keane's response to his side's 1-11 to 1-3 victory over Ballysteen in the final round of group games which saw them secure a semi-final spot in the Irish Wire Products Ltd County Senior Football Championship.
Newcastle have topped group two with four wins and one draw throughout the group stages of the championship. After the Ballysteen victory Keane went on to say: "There is plenty of stuff for us to work on now over the break and a goal of ours was to skip the quarter-final stage and give the dual players a chance as well. I suppose it's a blessing and a curse to have such a successful dual club but ourselves and the hurling management work well together to make sure lads aren't burnt out."
The semi-final's of the senior football championship will take place over the weekend of October 19-20.
