WATCH: Davy Fitzgerald backs Limerick hurlers to bounce back after Clare defeat

HE is a proud Clare man, manager of the Waterford senior hurling team, a TV personality and is known the length and breadth of Ireland for his style of play on and off the pitch.

Davy Fitzgerald took up the Waterford role for a second time in 2022, having previously held the position from 2008 to 2011 having also managed his home county of Clare, Wexford hurlers and was involved with the Cork camogie team.

With years of experience both playing and managing, he has one eye on the current All-Ireland champions, who were beaten by Clare following a twelve game winning streak in the Munster Hurling championship.

Speaking on the current championship, the All-Star admitted: “Mixed emotions because I’m managing Waterford, I am from Clare and naturally, of course, where you're from is where you're from”.

Limerick lost their first game in the Munster SHC for the first time since 2019 after Clare beat them at the TUS Gaelic Grounds by 1-24 to 2-20 with the former goalkeeper giving his verdict on the remainder of the championship.

“They had a good win against Limerick, in fairness. I think they deserved it on the night. I think there's going to be more twists and turns in this championship yet. I just have a feeling there might be a few more. We (Waterford) had a good game against Limerick in the opening round. It's going to be all to play for. I still believe Limerick are the team and I mean that genuinely, I think they are.

“I expect them to bounce back with a good bit of energy the next day and progress. And you, you just don't know who else is going to be in the mix. I think there's teams that fancy themselves saying; ‘Limerick are beatable’. I think they're going to come really strong towards the end of the championship,” he added.
