PREMIER LEAGUE

Geraldines 1

Fairview Rangers 1

The top of the table clash in the Premier League brought the crowds to the Garryowen Green on Sunday and they were treated to an exciting encounter which ended with the points being shared after a 1-1 draw.

Kian Mitchell gave the Dines an early lead which they held until the 78th minute when Conor Kavanagh equalised from a spot kick.

The home side will obviously be a little miffed to not have held on for the three points but the result sees Geraldines lead the way in the table which will ease the disappointment.

Geraldines took the lead after just 13 minutes through Kian Mitchell in spectacular fashion. Mitchell won possession just inside his own half and embarked on a surging run, riding a couple of challenges before playing the ball wide to Conor Keane. Mitchell continued his run, received the return pass and, with the goalkeeper advancing, produced a superb dink over the keeper to the net.

Geraldines were indebted to their keeper Zaquieu on the stroke of half-time. Shane Duggan delivered a corner and Jason Cross rose highest to meet it with a header which appeared destined for the net, only for Zaquieu to produce another superb goal-line save.

Fairview continued to chase an equaliser after the interval. A Jake Dillon free-kick into the Geraldines penalty area saw substitute Darragh Rainsford rise highest, but his volleyed effort flicked over the crossbar.

Rainsford played a clever through ball into the path of the onrushing Shane Duggan who tried to find the far corner with a low effort, but watched agonisingly as the ball rolled just wide.

Fairview eventually got their breakthrough 12 minutes from time. Jake Dillon made a fine run down the right and delivered a superb cross. Shane Duggan rose highest, but his header was blocked and the referee adjudged that the ball had been handled and awarded Fairview a penalty.

Conor Kavanagh stepped up and converted in style, sending Jose Zaquieu the wrong way to bring Fairview level and earn a share of the spoils.
