Intermediate football: Cappagh book semi-final spot with win

A fourth win on the trot means 2024 junior champions Cappagh can’t be caught at the top of the table
CAPPAGH booked their spot in the semi-finals of the Griffin’s Coaches Intermediate Football Championship on Wednesday night as they defeated St Patrick’s 1-22 to 3-11 in Pallaskenry.
A fourth win on the trot means the 2024 junior champions can’t be caught at the top of the table as they have the head-to-head advantage over second-placed Galbally.
The south Limerick men need to just avoid a heavy defeat against Newcastle West’s second string on Saturday in Kilmallock.
All three Round 5 games throw in at 5pm in the final round of group stage action.
Newcastle West can reach the knockout stage but have a weaker score difference compared to Galbally who are two points ahead of them and St Patrick’s who are also on four points alongside the Rhebogue club.
The city side take on last-place Pallasgreen in Ballybricken. Pallas have lost all four games so far.
Defeats for NCW and Pat’s will open the door for newly-promoted Ahane to reach the quarter-final. On two points, the Castleconnell men are in fifth place and will be hoping a combination of a three-day turnaround and it being a dead rubber for opponents Cappagh can leave the door open as the last two JFC.
In Group 2, there was also a game on Wednesday night as last year’s beaten finalists St Senan’s were 3-13 to 1-10 winners over Na Piarsaigh.
The win puts Senan’s back in the hunt for a place in the knockouts after only accumulating one point in their opening three games.
Gerald Griffins and Dromcollogher-Broadford are already guaranteed progression from the group
Griffins will top the group if they beat Na Piarsaigh in Sean Finn Park in Round 5.
Should they fail to get the points, if will give Drom-Broadford a chance to secure the bye to the semi-final. The team who won seven Limerick SFC titles between 2001 and 2013 take on Claughaun in Fedamore.
The Childers Road club - 14-time SFC winners - a massive win and other results to go their way to reach the quarter-final.
St Senan’s kept their hopes alive with last night’s win.
They need another win - this time against pointless Crecora-Manister - and a Na Piarsaigh loss against Gerald Griffins. Should those results transpire, it would take Claughaun having a winning margin 12 points greater than Senan’s if the west Limerick side are to be overtaken.
The Group 2 games all throw in at 3pm.
