BOTH BALLYBROWN and Mungret St Paul's moved onto seven points in group two of the Bon Secours Hospital Limerick SHC following victories in Friday night's games.

Ballybrown had a 3-22 to 4-14 win over Garryspillane, while Mungret earned a 13-point winning margin in their victory over Monaleen. Mungret have now qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition but Ballybrown could still be moved out of second place in the final round of fixtures. Ballybrown face Mungret in that game in two weeks.

It was a goal fest in their tie with Garryspillane at a sun-drenched Fedamore with Barry Adams' fifth goal of the campaign seeing them 1-0 to 0-2 up after just two minutes.

Kieran Hickey responded with the Bouncers' first on six minutes after an error in the Ballybrown defence and moments later John English saw Garryspillane 2-3 to 1-2 in front with their second goal.

Ballybrown settled with seven of the next eight points to lead by two by the 20 minute mark. It would have been a greater margin if it wasn't for a stunning Adam Sheehan save from Adams but Coughlan made no mistake on in first half added time with a low shot that saw his side 2-12 to 2-6 up at the break.

They continued to lead by six heading into the final 10 minutes, helped by an Andy Cliffe goal, but a late rally from Garryspillane nearly got them back into the contest.

Colin Ryan pounced for their third goal after reacting first to a Bryan Heavey long range free but Ballybrown responded with the next three scores to quell the Bouncers' tide. Hickey added a second goal on 62 minutes but Ballybrown held out to win by five.

In Claughaun, Mungret St Paul's saw off Monaleen's challenge with an excellent performance that saw them end up victors on a 1-25 to 0-15 scoreline.

The potent full-forward line of Paul O'Brien, Niall Mulcahy and Liam Lynch were in excellent form for Brian Begley's side in a win that sees them qualify for the SHC last eight.

Mungret were 0-12 to 0-6 up at the break and got the first three scores of the second half to extend that advantage to nine and Mulcahy's goal on 43 minutes helped seal an impressive win that sees them top group two heading into the final round.
