Voices from the Edge: The Irish Chamber Orchestra in concert
THE Irish Chamber Orchestra and principal conductor Jörg Widmann are promising “high impact works” in its latest concert Voices from the Edge.
The ICO’s February 14 offering takes place at St Mary’s Cathedral and features “a roller coaster of kaleidoscopic sounds that traverse time”.
The programme boasts Beethoven’s final work, his Gross Fuge, which remains as as fresh today as it was 300 years ago. The ICO will also perform Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 9, or Swiss, which is associated with its yodelling-song quotes and Korngold’s seldom heard Symphonic Serenade - more symphony than serenade, with the ICO bringing this substantial work very much to life.
The concert will also feature Widmann’s Aria.
