The Cantette Children's Choir will perform a special concert in St Mary’s Cathedral
ON SATURDAY November 3, the Cantette Children’s Choir will celebrate 20 years with a showcase of the Limerick talent that has at one time or another participated in the award-winning choir.
Performers, both past and present, will come together will come together in St Mary’s Cathedral to celebrate both the achievements of the choir’s young singers and the support they have received from their families.
Parents have been the “backbone” of the choir, according to conductor Máire Keary-Scanlon.
“They have brought children to and from rehearsals every Saturday afternoon, often coming straight from football or rowing or basketball,” Ms Keary-Scanlon said.
As well as Christmas concerts, charity events and choral competitions, the choir has also travelled to the Young Prague Choral festival, to the Advent Choral festival in Vienna and performed in Paris, Ms Keary-Scanlon added.
“The support and loyalty of the parents has made all these trips possible.”
The choir’s concert in St Mary’s Cathedral on Saturday November 3 will also give a stage to the many past members who have gone on to study music as a career.
“Many of our past members are now successfully making their way in the world in the music industry, whether as teachers or performers, composers and arrangers, and events managers,” Ms Keary-Scanlon added.
