Leading duo: Deirdre Moynihan and Alec O’Leary
CASTLECONNELL man John Gilhooly, director of the renowned Wigmore Hall in London, will introduce one of the concerts in the returning classical series in the village this autumn.
Gilhooly, chairman of the Royal Philharmonic Society, will introduce the October concert featuring the Van Kuijk Quartet, in All Saints Church.
The series starts on Tuesday next, August 30, with the Moynihan O’Leary Duo – Soprano Deirdre Moynihan and Alec O’Leary on guitar – who are recognised as one of Ireland’s leading duos. They will perform Shakespeare - Songs Rich and Strange, introduced by Liz Nolan of RTE Lyric FM.
The series continues with Cellist Aoife Nic Athlaoich, harpsichordist Yonit Kosovske and guest Debbie Diamond presenting Il Furibondo, the Madman on September 27 and the Vanbrugh Quartet on November 29.
“This year’s series will bring very well known duos and quartets to Castleconnell. Our aim is to give people the opportunity to enjoy live classical music, performed by highly skilled musicians at a wonderful venue that are both intimate and local,” said Sheila Deegan, arts officer.
