IT may be early spring but Limerick was transformed into a winter wonderland for a time this Sunday following heavy snowfall in many parts of the city and county.

Drone footage taken from the skies above Limerick city shows the extent of the snowfall which looks spectaular.

While road conditions have improved motorists are being urged to excercise caution if driving this Sunday afternoon and evening as temperatures are set to remain close to zero.

While there are no reports of major accidents, road conditions were said to be treacherous in several places early this morning where there were accumulations of snowfall.

Many people in Limerick woke up this morning to a heavy covering of snow and further snow showers were reported in several areas between 7.30 and 9am.

A national status yellow weather alert, issued by Met Éireann, remains in place until midnight.
