It appears there is no end in sight for the warm spell of weather Ireland is currently enjoying, according to Met Éireann.

While Monday night was cold with some frosts, it looks as though daytime temperatures in Ireland will persist in the high teens or up to 20C for the rest of this week and beyond.

Met Éireann has said "high pressure is still in charge" and that while "there's a chance of some light showers at times there will be overall plenty of dry weather and sunshine in store for the rest of the week."

They say Tuesday will be mild with temperatures between 14 and 19 degrees but it may turn a little cloudier.

"Wednesday will bring hazy sunshine with just the slight chance of a light shower. Another mild or warm day with top temperatures of 14 to 20 degrees, warmest further west, in just light northeasterly or variable breezes," the Met Éireann forecast says.

"Dry overnight with long clear spells for most. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees, with light northeasterly winds.

"Largely dry with sunny spells and just the odd light shower possible [on Thursday]. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees, a little cooler near eastern coasts, in light easterly winds.

"A dry night with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees. Some patches of mist and fog may form in light easterly or variable winds.

"Another mainly dry day [Friday] with spells of sunshine. An isolated shower is possible towards Atlantic coasts. Highest temperatures of 13 to 18 degrees, warmest further west in light southeasterly winds.

"Cloud building in the west and north with clearer spells elsewhere [Friday night]. One or two showers are possible towards the southwest overnight. Lowest temperatures of degrees 5 to 10 degrees in light southerly or variable winds."

Looking to the weekend, Met Éireann adds: "Current indications suggest the weekend will be warm with plenty of dry and sunny weather, though some patchy light rain is possible at times, particularly in western parts."

Their extended forecast shows that most of the rest of May will be dry.

"While confidence in week 2 [From May 12] is lower, there is a slight signal for the high pressure to persist. Rainfall amounts are continuing to signal drier than average across the country. There is an indication for mean air temperatures to stay close to average, with coastal regions trending slightly above average," the forecast says.

For the following week from May 19 to May 25, the extended forecast says "there is increasing uncertainty in the forecast for week 3" but that "current indications suggest conditions will remain settled with the persistence of high pressure. There is a slight signal for mean air temperatures across the country to trend above average, with a suggestion of close to or slightly drier than average rainfall amounts."
