Forecaster in snow update for Ireland amid indication of 'major' weather change
One weather expert has given a snow update for Ireland as he tracks weather models from the middle of November.
Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel gave the update on Sunday but tempered comments by saying the weather charts available at the moment are "merely speculative."
Catha said that while "high pressure looks to remain in control right the way up to the middle of the month with largely dry and very mild weather for the time of year with temperatures well above average," we then could see a switch to cooler conditions.
"The ECMWF has indicated that a transition towards more unsettled but cooler weather is likely for the final week or two of the month," he said.
Posting to his followers on Sunday, he said: "This evening the GFS has hinted at a similar outcome, with even some snow on the charts.

"BUT… (and it’s a big BUT), these charts are merely speculative so far out and they’ll continue to chop and change over the coming week until we start to see some more concrete trends developing," he stressed.
"It’s interesting to see some indications of a change. Though for now, please disregard any outlandish headlines about snowfall coming our way or early season snowstorms. Silly season well and truly has commenced in early November this time around!," he concluded.
Meanwhile, Met Éireann's extended range forecast has high pressure remaining over Ireland right through November, although their forecast confidence "decreases at week 3" which is from November 18.
For the week from November 18, they say "there is a trend for high pressure to be more prevalent over Ireland than usual for November. Rainfall totals are likely to be around the climatological average, perhaps slightly higher than normal across the western half of the country. There is a trend for above normal temperatures across the country.
For the final week of November, Met Éireann adds: "By the end of November and into early December, forecast data suggests high pressure will be dominant to the south of Ireland feeding in a westerly air-flow over Ireland. Weather conditions are likely to be changeable. Rainfall amounts are forecast to be around average, perhaps slightly above average in the west. Mean air temperatures are currently projected to be above normal nationwide."
