Met Éireann has updated its weather forecast for Halloween on Thursday and the rest of the week.

While their national outlook says "high pressure will continue to dominate through the outlook period bringing generally benign and settled conditions," it's not all good news for trick or treaters.

Forecasters say Thursday, October 31, will be "another mostly cloudy day and largely dry with limited sunshine," adding bad news for two areas.

"There'll be a few spots of light rain or drizzle about, mainly in the west and north. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees with mostly light southwesterly winds, moderate near northern and western coasts," the forecast continues.

"Mostly cloudy on Thursday night, with a few patches of light rain or drizzle, mainly in Ulster and north Connacht. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in light southwesterly breezes. A few mist and fog patches will develop as the night goes on."

Beyond Halloween night, forecasters say "many areas will be dry and mostly cloudy again on Friday, with just a few bright spells.

"Patchy light rain and drizzle will affect mainly parts of Ulster and north Connacht. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees in light variable breezes. Continuing mostly dry and cloudy on Friday night, with limited clear breaks. A few mist and fog patches will develop as the night goes on. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees, in light variable breezes.

"Remaining largely dry and mostly cloudy Saturday, though some patches of light rain or drizzle may affect eastern and northern counties at times. The best of any bright or sunny breaks will be in the west. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees, with light south to southeast or variable breezes. Saturday night will bring a mix of cloud and clear spells, along with occasional drizzle. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in light mainly southeast breezes," the forecast adds.

The forecast concludes: "Current indications suggest there could be a little more in the way of sunshine around on Sunday, with variable cloud and sunny breaks. Highest temperatures 12 to 15 degrees in light to moderate southeast breezes.

"High pressure looks set to decline slowly eastwards [early next week] but it looks like it will remain predominantly dry and settled with temperatures still trending a little above average. Uncertainty increases towards midweek next week, however."
