Met Éireann reveals coldest spot in Ireland as new warnings are issued

Met Éireann is warning that temperatures are set to fall to as low as -4 again tonight as the current cold snap continues.

For the third consecutive day the forecaster has issued a status yellow Low Temperature/Ice warning for Ireland.

"Very cold this evening, tonight and on Wednesday morning with severe frost and icy stretches," states the warning, which is due to come into effect at 6pm this Tuesday.

Potential impacts include difficult travelling conditions, low temperature issues for vulnerable people and animal welfare issues.

Separately, Met Eireann has revealed the lowest temperature in Ireland overnight was recorded at its weather station at Moore Park in Fermoy, County Cork.

Temperatures there dropped to -6.3 degrees at 5am this Tuesday.

According to the latest weather forecast, a mix of clear spells and patchy cloud along with scattered outbreaks of light rain, drizzle, sleet and snow for a time tonight.

Lowest temperatures of between -4 to -1 degrees can be expected with a sharp to severe frost and icy stretches forming.
