Storm latest for Ireland as Met Eireann issue grim update and warnings
Met Éireann has confirmed our weather will remain very unsettled for the rest of this week with a warning issued for winds at the coast and miserable conditions hitting most areas.
In its outlook for the next few days, Met Éireann said it will be "unsettled with wet and breezy weather at times but with above average temperatures."
They have already issued a Status Yellow gale warning from Mizen Head to Loop Head to Erris Head, saying, "South to southwest winds will reach gale force 8 at times."
The warning is valid from 1pm on Thursday until 7pm on Friday.
A Status Yellow rainfall warning is in place for Kerry, Cork, Waterford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford and Wicklow until 1pm on Thursday.
Alan O'Reilly at Carlow Weather also predicts "more wet and windy weather over the next few days but the good news is the heaviest rain is mainly overnight and strongest of winds will stay out to stay.
"If you have your Christmas party this weekend you might to try get home before you get soaked waiting for a taxi," he advised.

He did go further with "some tentative good news" as he said "the weather models are showing high pressure building close to Ireland around middle of next week. A lot of wet and windy weather over next few days but an improvement next week is looking likely at present."
Meanwhile, Met Éireann's grim forecast says it will be "wet and rather windy for a time today [Thursday], with spot flooding, as a band of rain tracks northeastwards across the country. Sunny spells and scattered showers will follow from the southwest. Fresh to strong and gusty southeasterly winds will back southwesterly as the rain clears. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees.
"Tonight [Thursday] will bring scattered showers, merging into longer spells of rain in the west. Breezy with moderate to fresh and gusty south to southwest winds, stronger though along Atlantic fringes. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees.
"Friday will be windy with outbreaks of rain, lingering across the northern half of the country for daylight hours. Southwesterly winds will be fresh to strong and gusty, easing off across southern counties by evening. Highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees.
"Rain will linger in northern parts early on in the night [Friday]. Elsewhere will start dry with clear spells early on but rain will move into the southwest and extend to all areas through the night. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees, coldest in the north, with light to moderate southerly winds."
Looking to the weekend, they say "Saturday morning will start off wet in most areas but the rain will clear northwards during the morning. A wet day in the north where rain will persist through the day. Otherwise there'll be sunny spells and scattered showers, some heavy with a chance of hail. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees with moderate to fresh and gusty westerly winds developing.
"Rain will linger in the north early on in the night. Further south there will be clear spells and scattered showers at first but becoming mostly dry for a time as showers become isolated. Cloud will increase later and outbreaks of rain or drizzle will develop in the west. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees with light to moderate winds, becoming southerly.
