BROADCAST Limerick, a new industry networking and information event focused on unscripted television production, took place at Engine in Limerick City, welcoming locally based crew interested in working across factual and entertainment formats.
Organised by Innovate Limerick DAC through Film in Limerick, and the National Talent Academy Crew South, Broadcast Limerick brought together regional crew, industry partners and sector representatives on February 8 to highlight emerging opportunities in unscripted production and to support the continued growth of the Mid-West's screen industries.
The event follows the launch of Europe’s first unscripted tax credit in Ireland and the recent announcement of a major multi-million-euro partnership between BiggerStage, Troy Studios and The MBS Group, which will establish a new global hub for unscripted production at Troy Studios in Limerick. The long-term collaboration is expected to attract major international television formats to the region, while supporting skills development, training initiatives and job creation.
Film in Limerick is working closely with production company BiggerStage and with Troy Studios to support crew development through the National Talent Academy Crew South and targeted training initiatives and events such as Broadcast Limerick.

The event provided attendees with insight into the scale of upcoming unscripted production activity planned for Troy Studios, Ireland’s largest and most modern studio facility, and outlined the range of on-set roles and career pathways available to locally based crew as productions ramp up in 2026 and beyond.
Mayor of Limerick John Moran praised the exciting event:
“Events like Broadcast Limerick are demonstrating our ambition and readiness to lead in high quality broadcast productions here in Limerick. The continued collaboration between local talent, industry partners and our world-class facilities are positioning Limerick as a place where creative careers can thrive and where major international productions can confidently call home.”
Príomh Chomhairleoir at Limerick City and County Council, Cllr Catherine Slattery commented:
“By backing events like this, we’re helping local crews learn about new opportunities and making sure Limerick is ready for the growth coming to Troy Studios. It’s important to us that people living and working here can benefit from these developments, and we will continue to support the partnerships that make this progress possible.”
Director General at Limerick Council, Dr Pat Daly added:
“Our focus is on building the right infrastructure, fostering collaboration and making sure Limerick is well positioned for long-term growth in the film sector. We are working closely with our partners and investing in skills development, we are also helping to ensure that local crews can access the new opportunities coming to Troy Studios.”
Dennis Barry, Head of Innovate Limerick said:
“As the National Talent Academy Crew South enters its fourth year, we’re proud to continue supporting Troy Studios and to work closely with BiggerStage in building a strong, skilled crew base for the Mid‑West’s growing screen sector.”
Paul C Ryan, Regional Film Officer, Film in Limerick / Innovate Limerick commented:
“There is strong momentum behind the screen sector in the Mid-West, and we are very excited to be working with BiggerStage and Troy Studios to build a sustainable unscripted crew base in the region. Through targeted training delivered via the National Talent Academy Crew South, managed by Film in Limerick in partnership with Screen Ireland, we are ensuring local crew have the skills needed to access these new opportunities.”
The event also highlighted how the new BiggerStage and Troy Studios partnership aligns with Film in Limerick’s ongoing mission to grow the region’s film and television ecosystem, ensuring that local talent is well positioned to benefit from international investment and Ireland’s new unscripted tax credit.
Since 2021, BiggerStage has delivered over 250 hours of primetime international programming produced in Ireland, including major network formats such as The Floor, Next Level Chef, Beat Shazam, Name That Tune and Don’t Forget the Lyrics. Building on this track record, the company plans to expand its unscripted production footprint in Limerick over the coming years.
Jamie Macken, Director of Business Development & Corporate Affairs stated:
“This is a very exciting time for Ireland’s unscripted production sector. With the launch of Europe’s first unscripted tax credit, Ireland has the potential to become a global hub for the creation of unscripted formats which means opportunities for a wide range of roles. The production industry requires a diverse range of roles and skillsets to bring a project to life."
"From capture, sound and lighting, to make-up, set design and project management - not to mention roles in transport, hospitality and beyond - the production ecosystem is wide and diverse. We are very excited about creating a sustainable centre of excellence in Limerick and look forward to future collaboration with Film in Limerick, National Talent Academy South, Cultural & Creative Industries Skillnet and the University of Limerick highlighting emerging opportunities in unscripted production.”
Broadcast Limerick forms part of a wider programme of activity designed to strengthen the Mid-West’s position as a centre of excellence for screen production and to ensure that the benefits of major international investment are felt across the city and county.
The development of a dedicated global hub for unscripted production marks the next phase in Troy Studio’s evolution. The facility has become a cornerstone of Limerick’s screen production infrastructure since opening in 2017. Set on a 26-acre site, the campus continues to host a growing slate of high-profile film and television projects, strengthening its role as a driver of employment, skills development and international investment in the Mid-West.
Elaine Geraghty, Managing Director of Troy Studios concluded:
