TREATY United will be hoping to qualify for the Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup semi-final for the second time in their short history when they welcome Cup holders and current League leaders Athlone Town to the Markets Field on Saturday evening, 5pm kick-off.
Dominic Foley’s Treaty United side are fresh from a 2-1 away victory over Sligo Rovers in the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division while Athlone Town also recorded a 2-1 away league win over Shelbourne last weekend to move to the top of the table.
Treaty United reached this stage of the competition with a comfortable 9-0 home win over non-league side Ferns United in the last round. Athlone Town are the current holders of the Sports Direct Women’s FAI Cup, a trophy which they captured in dramatic fashion last November with a penalty shoot-out win over Shelbourne at Tallaght Stadium.
By virtue of being cup holders, they received a bye to this stage of this year’s competition.
The sides have met on two occasions so far this year. The first was a pre-season friendly when they played out a scoreless draw. The second meeting was in the league in Athlone in June when Treaty created a number of chances but lost out to a late, late Chloe Singleton goal which handed the home side a 1-0 win.
Treaty United manager, Dominic Foley, is really looking forward to Saturday's big Cup tie.
“The girls are really looking forward to welcoming the current cup holders and league leaders to our home on Saturday. We have been very competitive in our two games against them this season. We will be going in to the game with the belief that if we have a good day, we are capable of beating them and causing a cup upset.
"Athlone are the ones who will be coming down with the pressure of expectation on them.
"We'd really welcome all the support we can get on Saturday evening to help cheer us on. You not only get the chance to support this Treaty United team but you'll also get a chance to see the side that are currently at the pinnacle of Women’s soccer in Ireland.”
Saturday's quarter-final tie will be decided on the day, with extra time and penalties if necessary.
Tickets for the game are priced at a special rate of just €5 (season tickets are not valid for this fixture). You can get your tickets for the game via the following link https://treatyunitedfc.com/tickets/
This game is part of a busy weekend at the Markets Field for Treaty United’s senior sides with Tommy Barrett’s Senior Men’s team hosting Wexford FC in a crucial league game on Friday evening at 7.45pm.
Fresh from their own Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup exploits in their 7-0 win over Pike Rovers, the Senior Men’s side will be hoping to take that form into the league.
A win on Friday night would move Tommy’s side within two points of Wexford FC in the race for play-off spots.
