Limerick's William O'Connor eyes live TV World Darts Championship tie at 'Ally Pally'

Limerick arrowsmith William O'Connor is competing at the PDC World Darts Championship

LIMERICK arrowsmith William O'Connor from Cappamore returns to action at the PDC World Darts Championship this Wednesday evening, December 21.

Cappamore man O'Connor takes on Gabriel Clemens, of Germany, from 8.15pm on Wednesday evening at the Alexandra Palace in London.

Limerick arrowsmith O’Connor produced a classy display to defeat teenage trailblazer Beau Greaves 3-0 in his opening round game on Friday night last.

Eighteen-year-old Graves was the youngest woman to compete in the tournament, and has been in dominant form in the PDC Women’s Series Thirty six-year-old O'Connor has a world ranking of 37 at present.

O’Connor reeled off three straight legs to complete an impressive turnaround in set two of his opening round match with Graves, following up legs of 13 and 14 darts with a 17-dart break to double his cushion.

The UK Open semi-finalist then kicked off set three with a 107 combination, before wrapping up a straight-sets success with a 94 average and three maximums.

Darts' biggest tournament has 96 players competing to win the Sid Waddell Trophy and £2.5 million in prize money at the Ally Pally.

2019 World Cup finalist O'Connor reached the third round of the World Darts Championship last year before losing out 4-2 to Michael 'Bully Boy' Smith of England.

The Limerick man had scored a convincing 3-0 win over 24th seed Glen Durrant, of England, in the second round of the prestigious tournament.

O'Connor, nicknamed The Magpie, had reached the second round of the 2021/2022 World Championship when overcoming US talent Danny Lauby.
