LIMERICK professional boxer Graham McCormack has relinquished his BUI Celtic Middleweight title belt.

On Saturday night, the Limerick city man lost out to Armagh's Fearghus Quinn.

In his first title defence McCormack was fighting on the undercard of Michael Conlan's event in Belfast's SSE Odyssey Arena.

Conlan defeated Karim Guerfi in the main event but on the undercard McCormack lost his title.

Back in June, Garryowen man McCormack scored a comprehensive 78-75 victory over Cavan's Dominic Donegan in an eight round contest to claim the title at the Europa Hotel.

For thirty five-year-old McCormack that victory was his eighth victory in nine professional fights.

But this Saturday night he suffered his second pro defeat when trainer Shaun Kelly threw in the towel in the sixth round.

Armagh's Fearghus Quinn started the bout on top. McCormack did find some rhythm in the third round but by the fifth and sixth rounds, the challenger was back on top.

Referee Padraig Ó Reachtagáin had spoken with McCormack's corner before they opted to end the contest in the sixth round.
