The launch of the partnership
Pictured at the recent announcement of a formal affiliation between Ard Scoil Ris Hockey and Catholic Institute were Principle Tom Prendergast and Catholic Institute General Secretary Mr Ralph McMahon along with members of the management and coaching staff as well as representatives of the current Junior and Minor teams at the school.
Since the introduction of the sport at the school, hockey has gone from strength to strength with teams achieving Munster Schools Junior B honours last year and making it through to Schools Junior A and Minor B semi finals this season.
Next year the school expects to make further strides as it will seek Senior honours for the first time and also seek to qualify for the first time for the Schools Hockey All Irelands.
As the only all boys Hockey playing school in the province, it has been a remarkable journey in a very short space of time for the players and staff.
The recent announcement underpins their success and the strong links that have been established between the school and the Catholic Institute club that have enabled this to happen. This links will be further strengthened as a joint Ard Scoil Ris and Catholic Institute U17 team take the field at the prestigious HDM International Tournament in the Hague over Easter.
