UL move closer to historic first Collingwood Cup title

The UL soccer side which defeated Ulster University 2-0 in their Rustlers Collingwood Cup semi-final at UL this Tuesday

HOSTS UL are one step away from claiming an historic first Rustlers Collingwood Cup title after scoring an exciting 2-0 semi-final victory over Ulster University at a wet UL this Tuesday.

UL can now look forward to a mouth-watering Collingwood Cup final showdown with Munster rivals UCC at the Markets Field this Wednesday afternoon, 2.30pm.

Ed O’Dwyer put UL in front in their entertaining semi-final on 68 minutes with a low drive from the edge of the box after Ulster University failed to clear a corner.

The home side doubled their advantage three minutes from full-time when Illiah Cocerhan struck for the match-clinching goal with a neat finish after great work on the right wing from Alan Murphy.

The semi-final had been scoreless at half-time after an evenly-contested opening period.

UCC defeated UCD 1-0 in their semi-final, thanks to a goal from Simon Falvey.
