Limerick FC suffer big blow as Bastien Hery departs for Waterford

Limerick FCs French midfielder Bastien Hery is joining Waterford Utd next season

LIMERICK FC have been dealt a blow with confirmation that their French midfielder Bastien Hery has left the club to join promoted Waterford United for next season.

Hery’s move was confirmed by Waterford United this Friday afternoon. Hery’s decision to swap the Markets Field for newly promoted Waterford is a major blow to Limerick FC manager Neil McDonald.

Former French U18 midfielder Héry enjoyed an excellent season at Limerick in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division in 2017, establishing himself as one of the first names on the team sheet and clocking up 28 Premier League appearances.

He was a key figure for the Blues as they consolidated their position in the top flight for next season, claiming a seventh-place finish in the Premier Division.

A product of the youth academy at Paris St Germain, Hery went on to play in England for Sheffield Wednesday, Rochdale, Carlisle United and Accrington Stanley before emerging as one of the top midfield talents in the League of Ireland during 2017 with Limerick.

Speaking of his swapping the Blue and White of Limerick for the Blue and White of Waterford, Héry said: “I am very pleased to have signed for Waterford, a club with plenty of history and success in the past; a club that is on the up again now.

“I met with Director of Football Pat Fenlon and visited the city and the facilities available to the club and I was really impressed with what I saw. For my family and me, to sign with Waterford was the best option.”

The twenty-five year old is ambitious ahead of the new season, he added:

“First and foremost my ambition is to play football and give my best for the team and the club. I came to Ireland to push on and play European football so ultimately that is my hope by the end of this season, to push Waterford FC onto the next level.

“Playing and enjoying my football is the best thing in life to be honest.”

Waterford also announced the signing of Bohemians striker Ismahil Akinade ahead of the 2018 SSE Airtricity League Premier Division campaign.
