Rathkeale set the early pace in Desmond League

Rathkeale are the outright leaders of the Premier Division after maintaining their 100% record with a 2-1 victory away to Glin Rovers. Danny Neville opened the scoring early but Glin were level by half-time thanks to a goal from John Wallace. Declan Nash scored the Rathkeale winner in the 85th minute. They had two goals disallowed.

Broadford United are now three points behind in second place after losing 2-1 away to Abbeyfeale United despite taking the lead when Micheal Brosnan scored from a penetrating pass by Gary Egan. A Jamie O’Connor goal sent the sides in level at half-time and sustained pressure from Abbeyfeale paid off when Thomas Smith drilled a low shot inside the far post in the 83rd minute.

There was a high-scoring draw in the game between Carrig Celtic and Athea United, with the neighbours sharing six goals. Sean Sweeney was the Carrig hero, with a hat-trick. Athea had led 3-1 at half-time with goals from Ger Ahern, Darren Murphy and Kevin Murphy.

A goal each earned a point each for Newcastle West Rovers and Ballingarry. The visitors opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Pa Kenrick came out of goal to take a 30-yard free-kick which was parried by Andrew Ruddle and Marcus Moore was on hand to ram home the rebound. Rovers equalised in the 25th minute with an Eoin Murphy header from a James Cussen free-kick.
