O'Donnell hoping Munster can drive on after Scarlets win

MAN of the Match Tommy O’Donnell said Munster’s first victory away to Scarlets in the Guinness Pro12 in five years gives the side something to build on.

Rassie Erasmus’ era as Munster’s first Director of Rugby got off to the perfect start when Munster recorded a rare away win over the Welsh region at Parc y Scarlets.

Back-row forward Tommy O’Donnell turned in an outstanding display for the visitors making a whopping 14 tackles as well as performing nine carries.

”It is brilliant, a great start,” O’Donnell said.

”This is a hard place to come and win. It is five years since Munster last won here. We have had a last minute defeat and a last minute draw here.

”It just proves how hard it is to come and win here. It just took a massive effort today. I am so proud the boys and so proud of the new caps today how well they did.

”It is a great way to start, something to build on.

”It is great to have competition in the side. In the back-row CJ (Stander) is waiting in the wings. He is pushing us in training. He is ready to go, only waiting for his deadline to count down unril he can return to play.

”The energy was fantastic out there that Jacques (Nienbaer) has brought this year. It is really showing on the field. We were able to weather the storm in the opening 20 minutes.”

Next up for Munster is the visit of Cardiff to Musgrave Park on Friday night. 7.35pm.
